Piercing at Mantra Fine Jewellery
When we attend to a new client, the piercing station has to be sanitised and cleaned before they arrive. All tools, gloves and gauges used during the jewellery change have to be sterilised in the autoclave.
For downsizing, we will install a shorter implant grade titanium backpost to replace the longer one that we put in to accommodate swelling.
You have been fitted with a jewellery that is long enough to allow for any initial swelling. However, a jewellery that is too long can irritate the piercing, so as soon as the initial swelling and tenderness subsides it is important to return to your piercer to get a shorter bar so that your piercing can continue to heal. Failure to do so can result in lumps, bumps, and migration that might not be reversible.
Most piercings, except the rook, navel, nipple, and daith, need to be downsized after about 5-6 weeks. We will give you an estimated date to come down again for a downsizing.
Implant grade titanium is what we can offer you if you would like to get something more affordable for your first piercing. Our staff will advise you on this when you come by for your piercing appointment.
Visit our ‘Book An Appointment’ page here and simply select the type of service or piercing you would like to get. You can then choose the time and date that you would like to have the service or piercing. You will receive an email confirmation and a calendar invite once you’ve checked out!

After making your booking, you will be attended to by a staff who will assist you with picking your first jewellery for your new piercing. They will advise you on the type of jewellery and metal that would work best for you. Thereafter, you will head up to the piercing room where our piercer will sterilise the jewellery and equipment with an autoclave in your presence to ensure that you witness the precautions and hygiene standards that we adhere to.
Do not worry! Our piercer will walk you through the procedure so you feel comfortable and safe throughout the whole experience!
We highly advise against getting a ring with a fresh nose piercing. A stud works best for new piercing to allow it to swell. A flat back disc backing stud is attached to the post which minimizes the amount of jewellery inside the nose and eliminates the need to bend. The flat back press for style stud is versatile, as countless different gems, ornaments and designs tops can be interchanged.
Ring as opposed to a flat back stud is harder to heal. You need to start with a ring of a bigger diameter, which might not look pretty. A ring will interfere with the healing process because it is prone to movement which will irritate and invite bacteria into the piercing. It will cause the piercing to heal with a curve which might create more issues in the future when you switch out your jewellery.
Suggest to start with a stud and switch to huggies when your piercing is healed.
This is not advised. To properly heal a rook/ conch piercing, you need to ensure that it is left untouched except for the regular saline cleanse. With a ring, you run the risk of tugging or hitting it unnecessarily. The best jewellery for a fresh rook/ conch piercing is a flat back stud fitted with design ends of your choice (gold/titanium) or just a regular titanium bead. This way, it will be less exposed and follows the curve of the ear for an optimal healing environment.
However, if you still have your mind set on having your conch pierced with a ring, you can get a ring with a larger diameter to allow room for initial swelling. A note, no snug fit rings can be used for initial piercings.
Jewellery can only be worn by our customers who have purchased them. If you would like to see them ‘on’ you, you can approach our staff who will assist to place them onto a transparent holder so you can see how they would look on you.
A piercing will experience some flare ups or irritation during or before the onset of a period. Stress and not getting enough rest will also slow the healing process. So please, get your 8 hours of sleep!
In line with the safe distancing measures, we only allow one other person to accompany the piercing client. This is dependent on the location of the piercing as well as your body’s tolerance to pain. Piercings done on the cartilage or at the more sensitive parts of the body will hurt more than others.
This is entirely dependent on the type of piercing you are getting and your body. You can refer to our writeup here to learn more about the time needed to heal your piercing.
We do not do snake eye and smiley piercings. These piercings carry a high risk of eroding the gum, cracking/ chipping the teeth and will also most likely migrate or get rejected by the body, leaving a nasty looking scar.
You can refer to our piercing menu to view the type of piercings we offer and their prices here.
Surface anchor piercings are similar to “surface piercings,” which are done on flat areas of the body, but placement options are greatly expanded. They’re anchored using barbells shaped like open staples or curved rods. The bar or rod is inserted underneath the skin, and the jewelry’s decorative tops sit on the skin’s surface. You get two piercings as there is an entry and exit point.
They are considered “long-term temporary”, meaning they are not expected to last forever. At some point, generally some time between 6 months and a couple of years, the body is likely to reject it. A longer lifespan is more likely in lower movement areas and placements that are less exposed to physical trauma and snags. Scaring is generally minimal, because of the small size of the base under the skin. A surface anchor piercing is no more risky than an ordinary body piercing and takes no longer to perform or to heal.
They can safely be removed with standard piercing tools and techniques. Surface anchor piercings are much less invasive to insert and remove, and should not be confused with subdermal or transdermal implants.
In a dermal anchor piercing procedure, a tiny ornament is inserted into a single opening that is formed in the tissue with the same tools that are used for body piercing. Unlike a surface piercing, dermals don’t have a separate entry and exit point. Your piercer will create one small hole and insert a base, or “anchor,” into the middle layer (dermis) of your skin. The actual jewelry is screwed into the top of the post. It sits on the epidermis, giving the appearance of beads on your skin.
Aftercare Instructions
Piercings should only be cleaned by a sterile saline solution once or twice a day. Any more and you are overcleaning it, which can cause disruption to the healing process. Any less than that, and you are risking your piercing to an infection.
A piercing will experience some flare ups or irritation during or before the onset of a period. Stress and not getting enough rest will also slow the healing process. So please, get your 8 hours of sleep!
Test your sterile saline stream by spraying it once into the sink before using it to gauge the pressure of the flow. Hold the canister a couple inches away from your piercing and concentrate the stream at both the front and back of the piercing's exit wounds. It will only take seconds to rinse your piercing. Do not remove your jewellery and please dear god, DO NOT TWIST YOUR PIERCING as this disrupts the formation of new skin cells, which will delay healing and potentially cause a bump.
You must dry the skin after cleaning it. The best material is lint-free gauze as it will not leave little bits of cotton fluff at the wound site. If you don't have this, you can use cotton wool, cotton buds, a thick paper towel, or a hairdryer on a cool setting. DO NOT USE TOILET PAPER as it dissolves when in contact with moisture and will leave residue on your piercing.
The most tried and tested remedy is the tea bag compress. Simply make yourself a cup of hot tea and leave the teabag in the water for a few seconds. Then squeeze out the excess water and place it on your piercing. Yup, that's right. Place the tea bag directly on the piercing. Do not wrap it up in anything, we want to let the tea get in contact with the piercing. Keep it there for as long as possible, for 4-5 times a day.
Teabags are full of antioxidants and healing properties. Below are some reasons why the tea bag compress never fails,
1. Stops the spread of infection by creating a protective layer over the exposed tissue while helping the piercing to heal.
2. It is rich in flavonoids which are plant chemicals that protect against inflammation.
3. Chock-full of antioxidants that repair cell damage. I mean we just stuck a needle through you. Your cells are most definitely damaged and cursing at you, so please be nice to them and hydrate them with some tea.
4. The heat will help to increase circulation, and this is especially important for your ear piercings.
5. All tea is good tea. Worry less about the kind of tea to use but more about how frequently to do the compress.
